WebTitan Cloud uses DNS to filter web requests.  We can use the nslookup tool that comes with windows to test to see if filtering is working.  You will need:

  • A web site address for a web site in a blocked category e.g. If you have blocked the Alcohol category you could use www.coors.com
  • A web site address for a web site in an allowed category e.g. If you have allowed the  Entertainment and Videos category you could use www.youtube.com

Open a command prompt.  Type nslookup and press return.  You should see this:

Enter the address of the blocked site and press return.  The IP address returned should be 52.32.39.15:

That is because when you attempt to access a site that is blocked you are returned the IP address of the WebTitan Cloud server and when you connect to that IP you will be presented with a block page.

Now enter the address of the allowed site and press return.  The IP address returned should be the actual IP address of the site (any address except 52.32.39.15):

If you are allowed to access a site the actual IP address of the site will be returned.
